„Zeit ist ja so eine Sache. Je größer die Uhr, desto mehr Minuten, richtig? Die Musik des Eddy Sonnenschein Quartetts ist niemals beendet. Das Stück hat gerade angefangen, das wissen wir, aber wir wissen auch: wir sind schon lange drin. Nichts steht fest, und doch ist alles da, wo es sein soll. Unaufdringlich, hell, wie Morgentau, und doch der Tag schon alt und weise. Die Musik muss nichts beweisen, soll nichts beweisen müssen. Sie existiert aus sich selbst heraus. Alles ist gleich wichtig, seien das die fulminanten Solopassagen oder die Luftgeräusche des Saxophons, oder das Geräusch des Piano-Pedals. Zeitgenössischer Jazz, bei dem die Musik nicht da aufhört, wo die Töne enden. Sondern alles ist Musik: das Einatmen, das Hören, das Fühlen. Und nicht weil diese dazu gemacht wird; sondern weil alles schon Musik ist, und immer war, und die vier Musiker das mit Demut zum bereits Bestehenden erkennen.“

Edoardo Sonnenschein (1997*)
ist Schlagzeuger, Komponist und Improvisator, der gleichermaßen in Deutschland und der Schweiz kreativ tätig ist. Geboren und Kind gewesen in Mailand, aufgewachsen und das erste Mal mit Musik in Berührung gekommen an der Nordsee, verbrachte er seine ersten Studienjahre in Leipzig und Mainz. Die dortigen Erlebnisse und Erfahrungen verarbeitet er in seinen Kompositionen für das Eddy Sonnenschein Quartett, das 2022 das vom LOFT ausgeschriebenerecording project gewann und nun sein Debütalbum präsentieren wird.
Im Jahr zuvor wurde er Hauptstipendiat der Zukunftsinitiative Rheinland-Pfalz und hatte die Möglichkeit, den Pianisten Colin Vallon (ECM Records) für ein Exklusivkonzert zu featuren.
Neben seinem eigenen Quartett ist Eddy Sonnenschein auch kreativ tätig in den Formationen Max Löbners KLSD, Fe Fritschis Body Electric und Barbara Greshake und Band. Eddy ist Preisträger des ESKAS Bundesexzellenzstipendiums der Schweiz und ist zudem Stipendiat von Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Frankfurt am Main e.V.

HINWEIS: Im Jahr 2024 starten die Konzerte im LOFT in der Regel gegen 20 Uhr - das LOFT öffnet jeweils um 19.30 Uhr.

„Time is one of those things. The bigger the clock, the more minutes, right? The music of the Eddy Sonnenschein Quartet is never finished. The piece has just begun, we know that, but we also know: we’ve been in it for a long time. Nothing is certain, and yet everything is where it should be. Unobtrusive, bright, like morning dew, and yet the day is already old and wise. Music doesn’t have to prove anything, shouldn’t have to prove anything. It exists on its own. Everything is equally important, be it the brilliant solo passages or the air sounds of the saxophone, or the sound of the piano pedal. Contemporary jazz, where the music doesn’t stop where the notes end. Everything is music: breathing in, hearing, feeling. And not because it is made into music, but because everything is already music, and always has been, and the four musicians recognize this with humility for what already exists.“

Edoardo Sonnenschein (1997*)
is a percussionist, composer and improviser who works creatively in both Germany and Switzerland. Born and a child in Milan, he grew up and came into contact with music for the first time on the North Sea, spending his first years of study in Leipzig and Mainz. He processed his experiences there in his compositions for the Eddy Sonnenschein Quartet, which won the recording project organized by the LOFT in 2022 and will now present its debut album.
The year before, he became the main scholarship holder of the Zukunftsinitiative Rheinland-Pfalz and had the opportunity to feature pianist Colin Vallon (ECM Records) for an exclusive concert.
In addition to his own quartet, Eddy Sonnenschein is also creatively active in the formations Max Löbner’s KLSD, Fe Fritschi’s Body Electric and Barbara Greshake and Band. Eddy is a winner of the ESKAS Bundesexzellenzstipendiums of Switzerland and also holds a scholarship of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Frankfurt am Main e.V.


NOTE: In 2024, the concerts at the LOFT will start round 8pm - the LOFT opens approx. 30min before the concerts begin.
